Ropewalk Farm in Somerset has been a vegetarian farm since 2015, and it is possibly the first of its kind. We are off-grid and all of our electricity is powered from the sun. We have working horses that can pull the harrow/muck spreader and have minimum impact upon the ground.
The farm is run as a closed system which means that animals aren't brought on and off the farm, which prevents cross contamination from other farms. We farm to biodynamic principles, which means that we do not use any chemicals. Focusing on the quality of the soil ensures that the grass eaten by our animals is the best that it could be.

When cutting hay, we ensure that all our fields are surrounded by borders with longer grass. This is the perfect habitat for mice and voles, and ensures that the barn owls in the area have plenty to eat.

Animals that are born on the farm stay on the farm. Our sheep have their fleeces shorn on the farm and then felted in our house, keeping the carbon footprint to the minimum.

Sir David Attenborough reminds us that the planet cannot support billions of meat-eaters. If we all eat a mainly plant-based diet, half the land can be freed up for growing more plants. In this time of severe climate crisis, we should all be exploring alternatives. 'Noskins' have all the benefits of sheepskin products, they are beautiful and can provide the warmth of wool. Best of all the sheep is not harmed in the production of these vegetarian/veggie fleeces and more fleeces can be produced every year with their newly shorn coats.
